- Start with their weight. That gets most dogs to the right size.
- Check the chest. Wrap a tape around the widest part, just behind the front legs. If chest and weight disagree, go with the chest — that’s what decides whether it closes.
- Between two sizes? Size up. A puffer needs room for the coat underneath.
